If overcharged, what would you do?

If you feel an injustice had been committed, what would you do?
Would you barge into a shop and ask for your money back? Or politely talk to the manager and make him see your point of view and how important it is to keep your custom?

"Let it go," my partner said when I told him I had been overcharged for a cut and colour at a hair salon. "Just don't go to them again."

It's very hard for me to let go of such things. For days I struggle with myself. To me, if I don't try to right things, I feel I'm encouraging such people in their less-than-honest ways. If I at least give them a "bit of trouble", they'd think twice before perpetrating the same thing on other unsuspecting clients. Which means my trouble or effort won't get me any future benefit but it might benefit other people.

What is your take, please?

hi Argus,
When i said sexy (in Kenny Mah's comment box) I meant David Fincher in Fight Club! not Borat!! hahaha I would ve quite a weird taste wouldnt I?

YESSS I NOTICED!!!! i wonder if they are just exageratting it (specially requested by Ali G himself), coz if you own the dvd you could check out some deleted scenes and there was one with him erected while getting massage from a man(then again im not sure if it was real) - it wasnt that long though, hmmm??

Argus - personally I wouldn't bother. Why? Money does matter, so does principle, so does helping some future customer, but happiness, personal contentment comes first.

The "confrontation" will only result in negativity. So I'd just "let it go" - c'est la vie! As the book says "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff". Or as my mum used to say "Put it down to experience".

hey Argus,
erm..Like Tunku, i wudn really bother with it also. But that's only because i'm someone who isn't keen on causing a scene or a confrontation with anyone. Yes, u can call me a chicken for that. Hahah...;o)

I'd go back.

All the more so cos today I had really bad customer service and I lodged a complaint that ended up in an email to the CEO. Lest you think I'm overdoing it, this is a company that prides itself on its immaculate customer service and at one point, I was so horrified at was being said to me, I was almost speechless.

So yeah, if they promise to deliver something, they better. Else...

Sulee, thanks for visiting. :-)
Ha ha, I thought u meant Borat because David Fincher is the director of the 'Fight Club' film but I'm not sure if he had a cameo in it. Then I thought maybe you meant Edward Norton.

Ee-yer, I don't think I saw what you saw of Ali G - and don't really feel a need to. ;-)

TH, I see how you see it. Which means you can easily let it go and be happy. I'm a bit different; I struggle with the issue for a few days thinking I'm encouraging them in their overcharging. So during those few days, I'm not happy.

I thought I'd learnt from previous experience (in M'sia) so I asked for the total cost before the work began. And then other factors came in...

Grace, but I bet you will stand up for a friend or loved one if you see an injustice done to him/her or hear something bad said about one of them.

Kenny, I think you did the right thing according to your standards. Oftentimes the directives and vision of the CEO don't filter down to the frontline folk. It's so important for managers to train these employees thoroughly and ensure they have the right service-oriented attitude.
If they don't like being helpful, courteous and knowledgeable about their service/product, then they should get a re-assignment to a backroom dept where they don't have to deal with customers, ya?
